Is it the gradient on the radar? Because I replaced the gradient with a solid colour, and I think it works well:


I want the radar to be an obvious radar, so that it doesn't blend too much into the UI.

That's better. The gradient green version reminded me of a submarine too much, but this one looks modern, so it's good.

My gf said that the new green version is pretier, but the black one is easier to look at.

If you want the radar to stand out and be obvious, than this might be good compromise. Another way you can go about it would be to add a pulse of somekind: either a line like in the submarines or a faint concentric circle emanating from the ship in the center of the radar.

I do like the pulsing idea, but this "radar" is real-time (it doesn't update with pulses) so I don't think the pulsing animation would fit.

I might darken the green to make it easier to read.

I personally definitely prefer the green radar, over the black/blue. It just stands out a lot more imo, saving valuable microseconds in the heat of battle.
